Hi friends,
with all the innovation going on in the world, I sometimes really just crave a mental escape back to the past. My favourite century being the 80ies & 90ies and everything around tech is a reliable source for guaranteed highlights, but sometimes excitement can be found all the way back to the 70ies.
The four women you see on the image above are Heather, Mimi, Bebe and Laurie Brown, portrayed in 1975. They are sisters and took part in a photography project by Nicholas Nixon. Forty portraits in forty years marks a time span for an art work that is quite unusual by its nature. To me, the most remarkable aspect is the effortless around time though. One can find resilience, strength, companionship and vulnerability all at once in the documentation.
You can have a look at the whole collection here.
Wishing you a great start into the week,
Julia

Art Currently on view in Berlin, I was blown away by the piece “Bondy” by art collective (LA)HORDE that expand the boundaries of classical dance with their works. Their practice encourages viewers to consider how, over the last fifteen years, our movements and behaviors have drastically shifted due to the ubiquity of phones, surveillance cameras, and social media. Podcast Critical theory, particularly associated with the Frankfurt School, is a philosophical and sociological approach that critically analyzes society, culture, and power structures to uncover and challenge the oppressive aspects of modern systems and advocate for social transformation. Questions asked include “Living in a capitalistic world, do we as a society even have a chance to act in a reasonable way?” (LINK)
Architecture For work, I recently went to Munich and was surprisingly booked into a hotel in the middle of the former Olympiadorf. It was truly a unique experience to travel back in time and to get a glimpse of what an utopian living scenario would look like.
